Book Review: Pure (the second Covenant novel) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Pure

Publication date: 4/3/2012

Synopsis from Goodreads :

There is need. And then there is Fate...

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn’t exactly awesome—especially when Alexandria’s "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth’s in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom—so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do—and sacrifice—for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies—lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn’t blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

Read my review of Half-Blood (Covenant novel #1)

My Rating of Pure: So much AWESOME Sauce!

Well it is no secret that I freakin love Jennifer L. Armentrout. I seem to dedicate a great deal of my descriptionblogging-time to her. Through her books she has given me hours and hours of enjoyment so I think she deserves that and more. Jennifer L. Armentrout has a way of writing that is fun, exciting, and manages to pull you in. I turn to her books when my brain is in need of a trip into awesome-fun land.

After reading Half-Blood I knew there was a chance I was addicted to the Covenant series. I couldn’t wait to read the second book. Then I read it…Oh, Pure. I effing enjoyed every moment I spent reading you!! I LOVE you!!  Now there is no doubt in my mind, I am addicted to the Covenant series and if that is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

Pure started off great. Right of the bat I got sucked into the world I fell in love with in Half-Blood. We pick up where we left off. Alex is dealing with the events of the first book and things around her seem to be changing. The pacing of this novel is great. Things are immediately exciting and they stay that way. Throughout the entire novel just when you think things are settling down, bam! something exciting happens.

Everything in Pure is just plain AWESOME! The story and the characters continue to be well-developed. I really like that the characters all stayed true to themselves. Things change and they have to change, but they all stay true to the person they are at their core. Alex is still her funny, tough self. Aiden is delicious and perfect, so delicious and perfect, in fact, that it hurts. Seth, well, Seth is still Seth, though I think in this novel we learn that there is definitely more to this guy. Whatever may be going on with him, whatever he may be hiding is bound to make everything even more exciting. All the other characters stayed true to their personalities. I especially love Caleb in this one. He really shines. Caleb is an example of a true friend and I am glad we really get to see that side of him.

The ending of Pure was just faint-worthy. Everything just changes. Trust me. Things. Get. Serious. I don’t know how else to phrase it. I am shocked, and excited, and nervous, and just plain unsettled. I am currently running around my room, arms flailing. Damn you, Jennifer L. Armentrout, you’ve done it again! I am hooked and invested! I bet she is sitting in her headquarters just indulgently rubbing her hands together as she smiles proudly. She knows what she does to us! She knows!

DeityAfter reading Pure, I can assure you, I require more! I need to know what happens next. I fear I might explode. Fortunately, I just Cursedhave to make it to November 6th. Then I will have my hands on Deity. Wish me luck!! For now I guess I will have to turn to JLA’s Cursed. Hopefully reading that will help keep the twitches under control. And you see, that is just the type of Author JLA is. She is always there when you need her.

Ps.

Note to Aiden, sweet, wonderful, sexy, perfect Aiden: image

That’s right, I EFFING LOVE you!!!

AIDEN!
